I recently made about fifty small clay sculptures of gravestones and memorials, based loosely on photographs taken in my local cemetery. These are drawings of seven of the sculptures. They are therefore drawings of sculptures based on photographs: a substantial distance from the original monuments and memorials.

Drawings of 24/4/14, 25/4/14 and 26/4/14
Soft pastel and ink on ivory-coloured paper

All the drawings are of objects stacked up in a glass vase (to give them vertical support) with the vague idea that this orientation would relate to my vertical paintings. During the drawing process I became aware of how the forms related, in my mind, to the human figure.

Drawings of 21/4/14, 22/4/14 and 27/4/14
